Installation Guides

Fitting your NeoTimber® composite products supplied by Grainex® is straightforward with the right preparation. Below are the official installation & care guides for our three main product groups — composite decking, composite fencing and composite cladding — as free PDF downloads, with the essential steps summarised beneath each one.

Every guide covers safe handling, recommended tools, pre-installation planning and long-term care. Still choosing a colour? Order free samples first, and use our free calculator to work out how much material you need.

Composite Decking

Covers subframe options (composite joists, adjustable pedestals, plastic joists & posts), the FastClip fixing system, board & trim fitting, picture framing, decking steps and full care guidance.

Quick-start: composite decking
  1. Let boards acclimatise outdoors for at least 24 hours before fitting.
  2. Build a level subframe (composite, timber, plastic or metal joists) with a minimum 35mm airflow gap beneath. Joist centres 250–350mm, running at right angles to the boards.
  3. Leave end-to-end expansion gaps: 6mm below 4°C, 3mm at 4–25°C, and 1mm at 26°C and above.
  4. Fix boards using the FastClip system, double-joisting at every butt join.
  5. Finish edges with skirting and corner trims, and allow 5–10% wastage (15% for diagonal patterns).

Composite Fencing

Covers handling, post installation options (composite posts on hard or soft ground, plus concrete and timber post retro-fits), fence panel and screen installation, composite gates and aftercare.

Quick-start: composite fencing
  1. Plan your runs, heights and the number of posts; set a string line for a straight, level baseline.
  2. Install your posts first — composite posts (1.8m, cut down as needed) on hard or soft ground, or retro-fit to concrete or timber posts.
  3. Build each panel by sliding the fence boards into the post channels, checking every board is level.
  4. Add screen or trellis tops and composite gates where required.
  5. Maintain expansion gaps and finish with post caps.

Composite Cladding

Covers handling, subframe design and layout, fixing cladding joists, horizontal and vertical laying patterns, edging around windows and doors, and care guidance.

Quick-start: composite cladding
  1. Acclimatise boards outdoors for at least 24 hours; store flat on battens.
  2. Fix a treated batten or joist subframe to the wall in the recommended layout, allowing ventilation behind the cladding.
  3. Install boards in your chosen pattern (horizontal or vertical) using the recommended clips and fixings, keeping expansion gaps.
  4. Finish neatly with edging trims around windows, doors and exposed board ends.
