About this product

Composite Balustrade Straight Railing spans between straight balustrade posts to create a safe, attractive horizontal railing. This 1816mm x 1100mm railing panel provides essential safety for elevated decks and terraces while adding a stylish architectural feature to your outdoor space. Available in all eight NeoTimber® colours.

Why choose NeoTimber composite balustrades?

  • A Hybrid Solution For Ultimate Flexibility. The component-based solution offers versatility, allowing the same product to be installed on both linear runs and as railings on stairways – an out-the-box solution compatible with a wide range of designs.
  • Five Premium Colour Options. Available in five colours matched to complement the range of capped decking products, so you can match your deck colour for a monochromatic look or contrast it.
  • Enhanced Fade, Stain & Splinter Resistance. A capped composite solution with aluminium post inserts and spindles negates the splintering, rotting, staining and fading that timber handrails succumb to outdoors.

Installation & Care

System: a component-based design suitable for both linear runs and stairway railings, building-regulation compliant for levels greater than 600mm. Posts and rail sets can be bought individually to reduce waste.

Fitting: install the full system – posts (with steel inserts), handrail, bottom rail and spindles – using the supplied fixings, following the correct spacing for compliance.

Installation Guide

A composite balustrade can be installed in a weekend. Always check UK Building Regulations Part K (1100mm minimum height, 100mm maximum gap).

1

Plan post positions

Posts must be no more than 1.5m apart, with a post at every corner, end and either side of any opening. Mark the deck or substrate clearly.

2

Secure the posts

Use heavy-duty post bolts through pre-drilled base plates into the deck joist or concrete pad below. Posts must be perfectly plumb in both axes — use a spirit level on adjacent faces.

💡 Always fix into structural joists or solid concrete — never into deck boards alone
3

Cut railings to length

Measure post-to-post and cut top and bottom rails. Allow a 3mm gap at each end for expansion.

4

Fit the spindles

Slot spindles into the bottom rail's pre-drilled holes (19 spindles per 1816mm panel). Maximum 100mm centre-to-centre to comply with Building Regs.

5

Fix the top rail

Lower the top rail onto the spindles, ensuring all spindles seat fully. Screw into each post through the rail's hidden brackets.

6

Cap and finish

Fit decorative post caps. Check the entire run for level and rigidity. Apply a final wash with soapy water.

💡 Top rail must reach 1100mm above the deck surface for residential, 1100mm for commercial

Frequently asked questions

Yes — when installed per our guide, every balustrade type (composite, aluminium, glass, wire) meets the 1100mm minimum height and 100mm maximum gap rules required for residential decks above 600mm in height.
Yes — order up to 6 free colour samples delivered within 3–5 working days. Especially useful for matching the composite balustrade to your deck colour.
Yes — posts must bolt directly through the deck boards into a structural joist or noggin beneath. Never fix into deck boards alone. We supply heavy-duty post bolts with every post.
1.5 metres centre-to-centre is the recommended maximum, with a post at every corner, end, and either side of any opening or staircase.
For residential decks, 1100mm above the walking surface. For commercial premises, the same 1100mm applies. Stairs require a 900mm grab rail; the main top rail still needs 1100mm at landings.
In-stock items dispatch within 48 hours. Standard UK delivery takes 3–5 working days. Balustrade kits ship by pallet — the courier will call to arrange a slot.
For domestic decks under 1.5m above ground, no. For raised platforms, balconies above 1.5m, or commercial sites, we recommend a structural engineer signs off the installation.
